Investment accounting, from the asset up.

Cost, income, fair value, realised and unrealised gains at the asset level — rolling into partnership accounting, NAV and every investor report without re-keying.

What is investment accounting software?

Investment accounting software records a fund's positions at the asset or security level — cost basis, income, fair value changes, realised and unrealised gains, FX — and posts the results to the fund's general ledger. In private funds it sits beneath partnership accounting: the investment ledger says what the fund owns and earned; the partnership ledger says who owns it.

Partnership accounting answers "who owns what"; investment accounting answers "what do we own and what is it worth". Many platforms do one well and import the other. FUN/D keeps both on one ledger, so a valuation change on a portfolio company flows to NAV, to each investor's capital account and to the portal the moment it is approved.

FUN/D is the books-of-record product from the company behind InvestorPortalPro: where IPP is a portal for firms whose accounting lives elsewhere, FUN/D is the ledger, with the portal as its read side.

Asset-level ledger

Equity, debt, fund interests, real assets and derivatives with lots, cost basis and corporate actions.

Income and accruals

Dividends, interest, PIK, fees and OID amortisation accrued on the instrument's own terms.

Fair value

Marks from the valuation workflow post unrealised gains by asset, deal and fund.

Realisations

Exits and partial sales book realised gains and feed the waterfall and distribution run.

Multi-currency

Local and functional currency tracked separately, with FX gains isolated from investment gains.

Straight to partnership

Results allocate to partner capital accounts by commitment, class and side-letter terms.

Questions we get about this

Is investment accounting different from fund accounting?

In private funds, 'fund accounting' usually means the whole books-of-record job; investment accounting is the asset-level part of it. FUN/D does both on one ledger.

Can it handle credit instruments?

Yes — facilities with draws, repayments, PIK and fees are accounted for at the instrument level. See private credit.
