Choosing a fund administrator

Scope, technology, people and price — and how to switch if you need to.

By SRM, Executive Director · Updated October 2026

How should a GP choose a fund administrator?

Match scope to your structures and asset class; check the team that will actually service you; examine their controls (SOC reports) and technology; understand the pricing basis; and decide where your books and investor portal will live, since that determines how easily you can switch later.

Scope and expertise

Experience with your asset class and structures matters more than size.

Technology

Ask whether you'll have direct access to your data and whether you can bring your own platform.

Controls and pricing

Review SOC reports; compare fee models over three years.

Questions

Can an administrator work in FUN/D?
