Portfolio management software for private markets
What it tracks, why private holdings need different tools, and the evaluation questions that separate good platforms from the rest.
What is portfolio management software for private markets?
Portfolio management software for private markets tracks each fund's holdings — ownership, cost, valuations, KPIs and exposure — across funds, co-invests and SPVs, and rolls them up for decision-making and investor reporting. It is designed for illiquid assets with quarterly marks, unlike public-markets PMS built around live prices and trading.
What private portfolio management has to handle
A private company can be held by a main fund, a parallel vehicle and several co-invests at different costs. Its financials arrive quarterly in a spreadsheet from the CFO. Its value is an estimate approved by a committee. Its exposure matters by sector, geography, stage and currency. And its performance must be reported gross at the deal level and net at the investor level. Each of those needs a data model built for private assets.
What separates good platforms
Look for one position record per holding with each vehicle's share of it; a collection portal that gets data from portfolio companies without email; a valuation workflow with methodology and approvals; performance computed from actual cash flows; and a direct path from approved marks to NAV and the LP portal. If any of those is a manual export, the platform will create quarter-end work rather than remove it.
Where it fits with the rest of the stack
Portfolio data is only half the picture: LPs care about their capital accounts, which depend on the partnership ledger. Standalone portfolio monitoring tools do the first half well and need a ledger and portal beside them. FUN/D keeps both on one data model.
Questions
Can we use it alongside our existing public-markets PMS?
Yes. Firms with liquid books keep their PMS and bring positions in for consolidated reporting.
Does it include valuations?
FUN/D includes a valuation workflow; see valuations.
