AIFMD Annex IV: the data behind the filing

What managers report to EU regulators, how often, and where the data should come from.

By SRM, Executive Director · Updated October 2026

What is AIFMD Annex IV reporting?

Annex IV reporting is the periodic regulatory report that alternative investment fund managers (AIFMs) — and non-EU managers marketing funds into EU countries under national private placement regimes — submit to national regulators, covering the fund's strategy, exposures, leverage, liquidity, investor concentration and risk profile.

Frequency

Reporting is annual, semi-annual or quarterly depending mainly on assets under management and use of leverage.

The data

Principal exposures and markets, instruments traded, concentration, investor types, liquidity profile, leverage calculated under the gross and commitment methods, and risk measures.

AIFMD II

The revised directive adopted in 2024 changes rules on loan origination, delegation, liquidity management and reporting, with most changes phasing in from 2026. Confirm with counsel which apply to you and when.

Keeping it consistent

As with Form PF, most of the inputs are fund-level facts. Building the report from the fund's books, with documented definitions, keeps it consistent with investor reporting.

Questions
